GLAAD's Outstanding Blog Award

The credibility of awards can often be dictated not only by the group or organization which gives awards but also the recipient of said awards.

Case in point other than silly awards given by Internet blog worshipping websites whose ulterior motive is to sell the award giving website's sponsors services or products, the "Outstanding Blog" award offered by the Elitist GLAAD organization is supposed to be meaningful as say the Oscar from the Academy Awards.

With few exceptions this award, which was first offered in 2011, has nominated both last year and now this year, blogs which for most of their content is copy and paste from other sources rather than original writings.

The winner of the first offering of the award last year was Joe Jervis of JoeMyGod fame who CROWOLF described in a posting about the credibility in "reporting" of LGBT blogs and websites, JoeMyGod, who never met a copy/paste function he didn’t love. This year's nominees are Mombian, The New Civil Rights Movement, Bilerico Project, Towleroad and Rod 2.0.

Towleroad it seems has been around forever, since 2003 actually and is a favorite of Anderson Cooper so it can't be all that bad. Unfortunately from time to time the website (it really isn't a blog anymore) does get its info messed up in copy/pastes and on more than one occassion didn't correct misinformation or incomplete copy/pastes which gave a different impression of a story than the one intended in the original source. Hmmmm .... sounds like FOX News.

Mombian does highlight LGBT news and events with little to no copy/pastings of other sources except press releases and does have original writings. The blog which has been up and running since 2005, is published by Dana Rudolph and as she describes the blog is for lesbian moms and other LGBT parents, offering a mix of parenting, politics, diversions, and resources for all our varied roles. Mombian provides parenting tips, book reviews for parents and children, news about LGBT families, and political and legal news and commentary, all from the perspective of a lesbian mom. It also includes a helping of lesbian culture and entertainment, in the belief that mothers don’t lose their other interests the moment they become parents.

The New Civil Rights Movement is another version of Gay Voices at Huff Post although the aforementioned has been around a lot longer but offers nothing more than stories which can be found at any multitude of websites both mainstream and LGBT.

Rod 2.0 is another copy/paste extravaganza with multiple theft of uncredited photos in postings but from the Black (sometimes angry) LGBT perspective of news and events.

Bilerico Project is a multi-faceted multiple writer website which has been around longer than the purple colored Dino of The Flintstones and which is owned and operated by Bil (don't spell my name with two LL's) Browning.

Browning whose primary function aside from bringing together the multitude of writers some very good, some not so and others which make readers wonder aloud, WTF are you writing about, is one of whining for donations so he doesn't have to get a real job (guess the BF doesn't make all that much money so Browning can play with his Internet toy and laze around like a 1960's housewife watching soaps all day) and oft writing about gay porn and pretty boys among other topics. Yet again this website is fraught with the copy/paste syndrome.

So who will most likely win this year's treasured award of Elite Gaydumb ?

If the goal is originality with content, content which is often not picked up nor bothered with by the Elite bloggers being a prerequisite, then it should be Mombian which gets this writer's vote, however in light of Joe Jervis winning last year, and we know how the game is played among the Elites, it will be which among the nominees are the Elitest of Bloggers and who suck up to Elite groups like GLAAD the most.

So with that in mind the winner will be for the 2012 "Outstanding Blog" ..... Bilerico Project.

Unfortunately for Browning unlike winning an Oscar he won't be able to turn that award into a cash cow as in the grand scheme of things it's not worth much more than shit on toilet paper.

To quote Sean Connery in the movie The Untouchables, "so endeth the lesson ".

Almost ..... and the winners, yes winners, are Mombian and Towleroad.

The Need To Find de Queerness

I was checking out my friend and fellow blogger Michael-in-Norfolk and when reading this posting it made my eyebrows rise up like Mr. Spock's (they actually do without realizing it as has been pointed out by people for years and when I'm perplexed by dumbasterey).

Not that I'm picking on my friend but the fella he copy/pastes a "film critic" at Towelhead .. uh sorry Towleroad and how said critic points out that the 1927 movie Wings has homoerotic moments.

Nathaniel Rogers the "film critic" in question finds several reasons for finding queerness in the movie which was the first film given the Academy Award for Best Picture.

The use in "dialog" of "you've got game" and "powder puff guys" but most of all because of the clip below. Has Rogers never had such a close friendship with another man that when that man is dying he would overtly embrace and give his dying friend a kiss. Or are all of his "friendships" more relationships and sexual in nature ?

I have and if I had been at the home of my best friend, soul-mate and as close to having a brother without being one when he had a massive coronary and died going on six years now I most likely would have reacted much the same way as depicted in the film clip.

Are people like Rogers and others so desperate and frankly pathetic, to find queerness in things ? If the point was just being made that this was "the first kiss" of one man to another in a film that would be fine. But to automatically make the scene one of de gay and as Michael compares it to Brokeback Mountain, for this writer it's a stretch and a very long one at that.

Shit if that's the case as de BI in the room then I'll look at the photo in this posting and shout out for y'all to hear ... LOOK Wings is about Bisexuals !

The Brothers Gibb Face Mortality

It's never easy to report or now write about illness or death. If I were still in sports broadcasting I would have been reporting on the death of Penn State's legendary coach Joe Paterno.

But now with doing this blog about all things (or most) LGBT to do this posting is just as hard.

In the wee hours of Wednesday morning I watched a two hour bio on the Biography Channel about the Bee Gees. Although aired in 2010 I'd not seen it before.

To say the Bee Gees have not been a part of my life would be to say I don't breathe air. The biggest part was in the 70's when the Bee Gees made a dramatic comeback with the music soundtrack of Saturday Night Fever and many of their songs on the album became the craze in disco clubs and gay bars.

Listening to those songs bring back many memories of that time for me, some sad but mostly it was a happy time. It was in fact a time when I was trying to decide "who I was" and how I fit into our Rainbow community.

Wednesday afternoon I decided to Google the Bee Gees and found the usual links to bios and videos then I switched the search to "news" and what I found was to say the least devastating as I had not heard and somehow missed the news which I now saw headlines for.

The Brothers Gibb have known their share of tragedy over the years what with losing younger brother Andy in 1988 at age 30 succumbing to his demons of addiction. Then in 2003 brother Maurice died unexpectedly after having a heart attack at age 53 while he awaited having emergency surgery for a strangulated intestine.

Now brother Robin is in the battle of his life against liver cancer which was first reported in November of 2011. He is currently undergoing intense and aggressive chemotherapy which caused him to miss a charity event on January 18, His old friend and spokesman Mick Garbutt told fans that he was in the best hands and said: 'He would have absolutely loved to be here in person, but unfortunately that simply hasn’t been possible with his health. That from an article in the newspaper The Daily Mail.

It is hoped Robin will attend the April 10 concert performance of a classical piece Robin collaborated with his son RJ to commemorate the 100 year anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic the BBC has reported.

Should you click on the links to articles be warned some of the photos of Robin today are very sad and difficult to look at as his cancer is taking a toll on his physical appearance. So damn sad this is. To think that the Bee Gees effectively ended with Maurice's death and now this which could very well leave Barry as the only surviving brother, he himself having his own health issues over the years. All too damn young to die from my perspective of age and touch with mortality back in August last year when I had a heart attack brought on by a blood clot.

It's said when it comes to film and recording artists we will always have them on film or their music, the sad fact is it isn't the same without them.

De SOTU Ain't Gay Enough WTF

First these elite fools found fault last week with Ryan James Yezak and his video about de gays.

Now one of the elites John Aravosis is complaining the word gay was used only once during the Prez's State Of The Union address. Don't worry by the time you read this others will follow suit and also complain because Obama didn't say lesbian, bi, transgenders, transsexual and ?ing.

Aravosis wrote in part, Wow. This is kind of a let down. I honestly thought there'd be more than this. The President mentions the word 'gay' once, in passing, that's it, nothing else.

The best part of the piece at AmericaBlogdeGay is this comment from reader Matt ... ah an enlightened reader who must read this blog also to wit Matt says, It is the state of the union, not an address to the HRC after all.Kinda makes me why somebody in the glbt movement doesn't do their own "GLBT State of the Union".

You know when the LGBT Elites write or say something as Aravosis has they don't realize how dumb, stupid and ridiculous they are outside of their coveted readers.

Think I should tell them .... nah then I wouldn't have as much to opine about.
