Repression Spurs Homosexuality

An interesting theory the headline in this post does make and it's not without some basis in fact as Ramzy Ahmed writes at the website GayStarNews.

Ahmed takes a look at sexual repression in the Muslim country of Qatar which is becoming the playground for the wealthiest of the wealthy in the Middle East but at a cost to those who like the Western lifestyle of booze, sex and song.

On the surface, the staunchly conservative view that homosexuality is a sin, a western disease, and, according to religious leaders like Yusuf Al-Qaradhawi and Bilal Philips, something that should be punishable by death, continues to be the status quo presented to the outside world. And, yet, under the surface, homosexual acts are widespread.

And for those who are of the steadfast conclusion that being gay is not a choice, when there is social repression as can be found in the Middle East and in particular Qatar anyone can be turned even if only for an encounter to relieve one's sexual needs when pent up in a religious imposed repressive society. Qatar would be the perfect microcosm of sexuality for Kinsey to have explored and evaluate how repression equates to homosexuality or at least the act of.

It’s similar to the idea of prison sexuality, harem sexuality or priests who have dedicated their life to celibacy who may seek sexual fulfillment from other sources. It is fair to say that these realities are, in a great part, due to a denial that humans are sexual beings, and that denying sex doesn’t mean that the desires go away. They do come out in one way or another. So, this is happening on a national scale here in Qatar, and other countries in the region.

Could it be we have found the modern age version of ancient Greece and Rome out in the middle of the desert where same-sex partnering isn't necessarily based on one being gay, lesbian or bisexual but just on the human need to find sexual pleasure as one can with another person.

Yes Qatar would indeed be a place of interest for Kinsey.

The Attempt To Censor MSNBC

I have certainly gone over my usual one posting a day six days a week but as this is my day off and with a post today by David Badash which I have read at The New Civil Rights Movement I need to respond now rather than tomorrow.

Badash's posting is about the religious group Faithful America which on Tuesday went to 30 Rock to present 20,000 signed petitions to MSNBC to stop inviting Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council on MSNBC news/commentary programs as a guest when discussing Conservative views or topics.

Without coming right out and saying (although he did so in so many words on his Google+ link) that he is in agreement he does put a link in his posting offering to his readers to sign the petition and also a link to the groups Facebook page.

There will be, if not already, others in the LGBT blogosphere who will feature this story and agree that Perkins should not be allowed on any news media programs or as part of a reported story because of the group's anti-gay views and because Perkins' group has been labeled a "hate group" by the Southern Poverty Law Center.

Which brings me to my response. If any of those including Badash who are in favor of not having Perkins on media programs then they have about as much in common with real journalists as the milk man. To wit they are not journalists.

Anyone who has ever worked in the news media, including myself, would see this as a true form of attempting to censor a news organization from outside forces, which unfortunately has been done time and time again by the likes of GLAAD and HRC.

News divisions are autonomous (or at least perceived to be) from their parent corporate owners and other divisions within that corporation.

One way to look at it this for those who have never worked in the media is the advertising division has no right to complain to the news division and attempt to censor the news if an advertiser is held under journalistic scrutiny. But today more and more the Parents are telling the Kids what they should or shouldn't say or who they should or shouldn't give air-time (ie: Roland Martin) because of outside pressure.

And that boys and girls is censorship of the Free Press.

This is nothing new, it goes back as far as CBS when Edward R. Murrow ran his expose' on Senator Joe McCarthy which drew so much angst for CBS Broadcasting owner William Paley that Paley insisted on giving those who Murrow might feature in a broadcast the opportunity to "have their say" and without consultation with Murrow in giving that opportunity.

This while it caused an irreparable spilt between Paley and Murrow ended up doing more good for journalism than it did harm. When Murrow had McCarthy on for a "rebuttal" interview regarding Murrow's story about McCarthy it harmed McCarthy even further than the original broadcast as far as public opinion was concerned.

For any news organization from the smallest weekly newspaper or local radio station to ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, CNN and their many subgroups to kowtow to the pressure of outside groups and organizations is not only shameful but is akin to "governmental control" of the news media.

The First Amendment of The Constitution not only should apply to governmental control of the news media but to those who try to censor the news media when someone or a group is allowed to be featured in or on the news media which others disagree with their given position or overall stance on subjects be they political or social.

It is then up to the Parents of news organizations to stand firm in their resolve to standby Freedom of the Press and not waiver in what the broad sense of the Amendment means.

Censorship of any kind is a slippery slope which is hard to turn back from.

Kicking de Elites In da Boo e Aye

There are some I'm sure who happen across this blog either via searches of one sort or another, or via a link somewhere in the vast blogosphere, who when I write that out there are others who are like minded when it comes to my take on the Elites both bloggers and websites and orgs, sit back and say OH BULLSHIT !!! before moving on elsewhere.

Here's a little proof from a blog I don't read nor do I the know the person who writes it. In fact another blogger sent me this link in an email. The blog is called Enough Non-Sense and the title of the posting is "Engorged With Self-Importance" which takes a look at Bil (that's Bill with one L) of Bilerico and his recent posting(s) about some in the Trans community. The writer also calls into question the validity of other blogs and participants. Fasten your seat belts those of you boot licking followers of the blogs mentioned in the posting as it may cause you to slip below the computer and onto the floor.

I'd like to highlight just some of the things written, which like minded as myself, the writer looks through the Elite smoke and mirrors and calls a spade a spade.

I need to mention a couple of things before I go on. First off, Bilerico, PHB, and all the rest are blogs…BLOGS !!! Blogs are not the New York Times, or Newsweek, or National Geographic, or JAMA. Anyone…ANYONE…can start a blog for absolutely nothing…no monetary output at all. So why does Bil Browning need money to support it? I’ll tell you why. Once in a blue moon a blog is deemed so newsworthy that the blog is bought for huge sums of money…for example The Huffington Post. But blogs like The Huffington Post hire professional reporters, professional writers, professional editors and are truly online news services. For whatever Bilerico Project or PHB is, one thing they are many light years from being is a Huffington Post. Still, in the atmosphere of self-important delusion, perhaps Bil Browning feels he’s got a shot.

Another thing is the myth of the so-called new media reporter. How many times have we heard Autumn Sandeen refer to herself as a new media reporter? Ugh. These so-called new media reporters love to put up blog headlines something like this: BREAKING: Blah, Blah, Blah. Then ones scans the piece to find it’s something that’s old news and already been plastered on one of the real, legitimate news outlets. BREAKING? What a joke.

But, wait, you say…these blogs are award winning. Yes, they are. Zoe Brain’s blog was “Voted Best ANZ Blog not owned by Rupert Murdoch.” LMAO. Those italics should tell you something for sure. Both Bilerico and PHB have also won awards for being good gay blogs…so fucking what? Who outside the homosexual community gives a good flying fuck? No one, that’s who. One blogger goes on and on and on an on about how she’s a Trinity Award Winner. Well, kudos up my ass to you, Miss Trinity Award Winner…but who gives a shit. You won a Trinity Award from a now virtually defunct organization, IFGE, that was started by crossdressers for crossdressers and that no one but crossdressers gives a damn about…certainly no one outside of the GLBT has even heard of either the organization or the award. But, by all means, lottie dah to you.

And there's more in this well written posting about the Elites.

Lady Gaga Skips End Of The Show

Lady Gagness appeared to skip out of the Grammy Awards after not getting best album of the year and passed over in all her nominations.

After the final award was given and before the big finale and I mean BIG with Sir Paul McCartney and friends, just before going to commercial break the director of the show took a wide angle shot showing the audience and there was her Gagness walking with scepter in hand apparently leaving the show before it ended.

Of course I could be wrong, perhaps she had to go potty or her limo was double parked, but it gave this writer and I'm sure others an image of a spoiled sport leaving because she was panned for awards.

By the way and I'm sure it's a generational thing but doesn't anyone tell this young lady how ridiculous she looks in some of these get ups ? Oh I know it's a Madonna thing but at least Madonna had the talent and where-with-all to pull off some of her more outrageous costume appearances. But then I suppose loveliness is in the eye of the beholder.

It's like one of my cuz'in-laws once said about the GREAT Stevie Wonder. If he could see how some of his cronies do his hair he'd shoot them.

As far as the awards which were won (of those I saw) it was good to see some "good old fashion" type music artists and songs win rather than some of the screechers with ear piecering guitars flailing and other buffoons who have won in the past.

Sorry boys and girls while I do have a wide range of taste in music I don't care to be screamed at (never cared much for many of the hard rock bands) and I like to be able to understand the lyrics forthcoming from a performer's mouth.

A well done and subdued tribute to Whitney Houston in the Memoriam part of the show.
