Rourke Isn't Playing de Gay

When the news about Mickey Rourke playing on the silver screen out and proud rugby player Gareth Thomas I said to myself, "self how is this dino who is older than me by a year (I'm 58) going to pull this off ?"

Well we don't have to worry about it now boys and girls as the once hunk and then some (as evident in the photo) has realized that a) the stunts involved and prep for is too much and b) a younger man closer to Thomas' age needs to play the part.

You see kids that white or gray hair we 50 plus folks have does suck out the brain cells even the ones that give us common sense about things. Dyeing the hair doesn't work in brain cell sucking prevention.

However, the actor had admitted that time was catching up to him, stating recently: "The physical thing is harder than I thought. I'm just trying to get fit enough to do it." reports the website Joe.ie.

Inception star Tom Hardy is reportedly considering the role. Which would be more true to life anyway as far as age and body type and the fact he admitted in an interview back in 2010 with NOW magazine, when asked de question, if he ever had sex with men, he doth replied, "Of course I have. I'm an actor for f*ck's sake. I've played with everything and everyone. I love the form and the physicality, but now that I'm in my thirties, it doesn't do it for me. I'm done experimenting but there's plenty of stuff in a relationship with another man, especially gay men, that I need in my life. A lot of gay men get my thing for shoes."

Well being bisexual or "experimenting" does have it's advantages but his fiancee Brit actress Charlotte Riley appears to be in no hurry to take that leap to the alter just yet. The couple met in 2009 while filming Wuthering Heights for ITV and before his "coming out ?".

de Hollywood Gay Series

On previous versions of Focus On The Rainbow which appeared at Hearst Newspapers, OutLoudBlogs and a stand-alone version (now all deleted unfortunately) I ran an off and on series of postings about de gay in Hollywood and how "progressive" Hollywood treated members of their own for being out or forced them stay in the closet because of studio bottom lines.

These postings won't be ones of gossip, but instead using archival news sources to show how Hollywood turned its back on LGB actors and actresses while many in power were LGB themselves.

"Box office poison" is how out or perceived to be gay actors were treated and can we say in the grand scheme of things while today we do have out and proud Thespians, has the glass ceiling really been broken for the out and proud of Hollywood while others stay in the closet to continue to work.

Included in the series will be "success stories" of some actors as they have overcome their personal challenges (such as Bai Ling) but most of the writings will take a look at the darker side of Hollywood's past (and in some case present) where one can sit and wonder aloud, has anything really changed.

The postings have a special link to all postings in the series in the banner header at the top of this blog. The first posting and subject is Brad Davis the star of the film Midnight Express who had AIDS and had to hide that fact in order to work.

Gay Men Arrested On Ship

As my two buddies over at Best Gay Travel Guide would tell you when traveling to other countries you need to make yourself aware of what goes and what is taboo when it comes to sodomy laws.

Two men from California are learning that the hard way as GayStarNews is reporting using several sources. The two men were arrested Wednesday after being seen by someone from the dock where the ship they were on, a Celebrity Summit cruise ship, was docked and the individual alleges the two men were engaged in sex.

John Robert Hart and Dennis Jay Mayer both in their 40's were arrested on the ship by local authorities and will appear in court today on charges of suspicion of indecent exposure and sodomy. The ship had been docked in the Caribbean country of Dominica which outlaws sex among gays.

The cruise which had been organized by the gay travel company Atlantis Events in West Hollywood, CA warns all travelers of potential sodomy laws which are in effect in the various countries their planned cruises take travelers.

The penalty in Dominica for same-sex sexual activity is up to 10 years in prison.

In an update from one of the sources GayStarNews used in doing their article, Dominican News Online, the website reported the charge of "buggery" (sodomy) would be dropped and they had been charged with indecent exposure. The sodomy charge was dropped because as Police Chief Cyrille Carrette told the website Wednesday evening, that charge will take too long to expedite, hence the men will only be charged with indecent exposure.

The ship sailed on without the two men to continue the scheduled cruise.

If found guilty of the indecent exposure charge they could be fined $370 each and could face up to six months in prison according to a report by the Associated Press via The Washington Post.

In the latest update the two men pleaded guilty this morning to the charge of indecent exposure and were fined about $900 and were expected to be released today.

One final note on this topic as now an interview with Hart and Mayer has become available as of Friday 3/23/12 (video may be pulled at some point for copyright infringement) and this is my opine but also shared by others who have sent me email or other comments I have seen, these two gents really can't play the anti-gay card (even as others are doing in support) as they knew the "rules" of the country they were visiting and being on board a ship does not fore go those rules as the ship they are on sits in the water of Dominica. Whether they were engaged in sexual activity or just standing butt naked for all to see on the dock is, in my less than humble opinion, just dumbass stupid given the potential consequences.

He Dances Like An Egyptian

Michael-In-Norfolk has the background on this and I know it's not polite to laugh at other's misadventures in life but when I saw the video (at the link), sorry boys and girls I couldn't help myself.

Yep Jason Russell the promoter of Kony 2012 has become .. ahem .. arrears with de police in the land of fruits and nuts sunny California for his parading around in de buff and others things which aren't supposed to be displayed in public.

Many are saying that Russell is a closeted gay hypersurpressed by conservative religion and his marriage.

Speculation at best, but if nothing else Russell certainly can be the life of any party and damn can he dance like an Egyptian.

Lesson to be learned do this in San Francisco or New York where no one notices.
